FMS Showcase Concert

Gifted Young North-Eastern musicans take the stage!

Sunday 15th November 2009 saw a wide range of ensembles from the North East of England perform in a major concert at the Newcastle City Hall.
This Victorian building in the centre of Newcastle has been recently refurbished, and all ensembles were made to feel welcome.
There was a wide variety of music to be enjoyed: an appreciative audience heard traditinal folk music, pieces by jazz bands,
music performed by a group of enthusiastic primary school brass players,  and also the Gateshead Senior Wind Band, directed by Mr Tony Hedley.

Playing at the City hall on Sunday was a special experience for the Senior Wind Band. It’s the first time many of the Band have played in a world famous concert hall; the Band were really impressed with the style and decor of the concert hall, which has just had a new stage floor and paintwork, and of course the back stage accommodation is quite luxurious.
The program included several Bands of various ages and abilities, not all Wind generated! The String groups were particularly interesting to listen to and ‘Larry and the Penguins’ probably wore the best uniform/costume?
We owe a Big,Big thank you to Ian Colthart for organising the concert; a terrific opportunity for our Band, “best yet” says the Band, and, the other ensembles were awesome.

Many thanks to Mr Ian Coulthard of North Tyneside Music Service for giving so many young musicians an opportunity to perform in such a fine venue.
We all look forward to the next performance.
