The Old Town Hall Gateshead
An appreciative audience enjoyed the performance at the recently refurbished Old Town Hall, Gateshead, on Monday 17th May 2010.
Really this was a concert with something for everyone. Young violinists from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School performed as a whole class to great acclaim: their teacher Mrs Anne Porter selected lively and attractive short pieces for this event. The Youth Orchestra performed a wide variety of works, ranging from Beethoven’s ‘Egmont Overture’ and the Bach Brandenburg Concerto 5 to a recent work by John Treherne. In addition there was the first performance of Georgina Biddle’s ‘Three Jewish Dances’ which were performed with great aplomb by the strings.
After an interval there were more items from the young violinists; then the wind band (today under the baton of Mr George Parnaby) played an eclectic mixture of pieces, to universal approbation.
This was a most enjoyable event, and a fine preparation for both the forthcoming showcase concert in Hall One at the Sage Gateshead on the 1st July 2010 and also the orchestra and wind band’s forthcoming tour of the Rhine in July.
Another highly effective evening was enjoyed by all.
