Gateshead Viol Consort

 

The viol is a stringed instrument family (similar to the violin family) and consists of three sizes of instrument; bass tenor and treble.  However, the viol is played in an upright manner, similar to a cello or double bass.

Staff

The Viol Consort  is conducted and directed by Mr John Finnon, a recognised expert  in the instrument.

Membership

The members are currently aged between 11 and 15 years of age.  All members of the group play another instrument to ABRSM grade 3 or more and play the viol as a second instrument.

Repertoire

The viol group play music written between 1550 and 1700 and usually play one player to a part, this can be challenging as the part writing is often quite intricate.

Rehearsals

The viol group meet every Thursday evening between 4.30pm and 6.30pm at Whickham Comprehensive School with Mr John Finnon.

Concerts and Events
